MAIT-PRESS RELEASE ON Union Budget 2019-2020

5 July 2019, New Delhi: Manufacturers Association for Information Technology (MAIT) congratulates the Government of India for a forward looking announcements made in the Union Budget. From the Electronics sector perspective, the announcements made will ensure continuity in the policies towards building an electronic manufacturing ecosystem in the country.

Proposal to use the Universal Service Obligation Fund under a Public Private Partnership arrangement for Bharat-Net will enhance smartphones penetration and for the digital transformation of India where new technologies will be easily accessible to empower all sections of the society.

The proposals made for Make-in-India for launch of a scheme to invite global companies through a transparent competitive bidding to set up mega-manufacturing plants in areas like Semiconductor Fabrication (FAB); Computer Servers, Laptops etc. are a positive step in this direction.

Mr. Nitin Kunkolienker, President-MAIT “it is a work in progress budget for the electronics sector of the country. There is a lot more we have to do to attract global manufacturing and India has to compete with other nations for investments. We are happy to see a continuity in the policy from the governments’ side. We also welcome the exemption on customs duty on capital goods for certain sub-sectors of electronics manufacturing.”

Mr. Kunkolienker further said that “MAIT is fully aligned with government’s vision of NPE 2.0 and that we are working with the government towards making this a success.”
